Yunnan Birding Tour (14Days)

With terrain ranging from tropical rainforest to snow-capped peaks and peoples from Thai to Tibetan,Yunnan is the most varied of China's provinces and is one of the most alluring destinations in the entire country. From the snowclad 6,000m peaks of Meilixue Shan in the northwest to the jungles of Xishuangbanna in the south, Yunnan boasts every kind of habitat, and the longest provincial bird list in China with more than 800 species. It also boasts half of China's plant and animal species.Yunnan is also well known for its year-round mild climate. There are numerous excellent areas for bird watching in Yunnan.

Schedule:

Day 1__Arrive in Kunming  

Your arrival in the Kunming. Our guide and driver will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel.

1-night in 4* Green Lake Grand Hotel or similar.

 

 

Day 2__Kunming to Dali  

In the early morning we'll drive to the Western Hill near Kunming for some city birds, Western Hill is a nice green park on the immigrating route of birds, the birding here can be very relaxing and pleasant. After that we'll drive to Dali for Overnight.

The birds you may see today are:

Crested Goshawk, Black-headed Gull, Speckled Wood Pigeon, Short-billed Minivet, Long-tailed Minivet, Ashy Drongo, White-throated Fantail, Great Tit, Green-backed Tit,  Black-throated Tit, Crested Finchbill, Brown-breasted Bulbul, White-browed Shrike-Babbler, Blue-winged Minla, White-browed Fulvetta, Black-headed Sibia, Whiskered Yuhina, Spot-breasted Parrotbill, Red-billed Leiothrix, Japanese White-eye, Chestnut-bellied Rock Thrush, Mrs. Gould's Sunbird, Russet Sparrow, Beautiful Rosefinch,

Day 3__Mt. Cangshan Reserve in Dali  

Birdwatching in Cangshan Reserve in the morning. You will have a good opportunity to see Lady Amherst's Pheasant on the road,  bird watching in the farmland along the Erhai Lake in the afternoon .

Day 4__Dali to Baihualing Reserve in Mt.Gaoligongshan  

After morning birding in Cangshan, we will drive to Baihualing Reserve in Mt Gaoligongshan, and we'll stop for birds in the farmland along the Nujiang River.

Crested Bunting, White-throated Kingfisher, Burmese Shrike, Long-tailed Shrike, Black Drongo, Ashy Drongo, Sand Martin, Hill Prinia, Rufescent Prinia, Plain Prinia, Mountain Tailorbird, Common Tailorbird, Red-whiskered Bulbul, Red-vented Bulbul, Sooty-headed Bulbul, Oriental Reed Warbler,

4 nights in Baihualing Reserve. 

 

 

 

Day 5 to 7  Mt. Gaoligongshan

There are three main parts to the Gaoligongshan Nature Reserve - Baihualing Nature Reserve, Dahaoping Nature Reserve and Nankang Nature Reserve. Baihualing is by far the best, and also the most easily accessible part of the Gaoligong Mountains.

The birds you may see here are:

Day 8 __Gaoligongshan to Tengchong 

Today we'll leave from Gaoligongshan to Tengchong city through the old forest road and stop by the pass of Gaoligongshan for birds.

 

Day 9  Tengchong-Yingjiang

Tengchong is located on the west side of Mt. Gaoligongshan surrounded by volcanoes. And the place we are going for birds is called Laifengshan Park, which is sitting in the city centre. After a whole day birding in Laifengshan Park, we'll then head to Yingjiang for Overnight.

The possible birds here are:

Slender-billed Oriole , Crested Goshawk, Shikra, Great Barbet, Golden-throated Barbet, Crimson-breasted Woodpecker, Grey-headed Woodpecker, Black-winged Cuckoo-shrike, Rosy Minivet, Yellow-bellied Fantail, Eurasian Jay, Streak-breasted Scimitar Babbler, Red-billed Scimitar Babbler, White-browed Shrike-Babbler, Blue-winged, Chestnut-tailed and Red-tailed Minla, Grey-cheeked Fulvetta, Black-headed Sibia, Beautiful Sibia, Whiskered Yuhina, Elliot's Laughing-thrush, Red-faced Liocichla, Silver-eared Mesia, Chestnut-flanked White-eye, Chestnut-vented and Yunnan Nuthatch, Black-collared Starling, Black-breasted Thrush, Little Pied Flycatcher, Verditer Flycatcher, Grey-headed Canary-Flycatcher, Russet Sparrow, Scaly-breasted Munia, Black-headed Greenfinch,

 

   

 

 

 

Day 10-12  Yingjiang

We'll based in Yingjiang county and birding to the nearby Nabang,Xueli, Rongshuwang Reserve, Tongbiguan Reserve. This area is at the border between China and Myanmar, it contains most of the birds in East Myanmar and North Thailand and the accessibility  is quite easy.

The possible bird here are:

Grey Peacock Pheasant, Indian Spot-billed Duck, Jerdon's Baza, Rufous-bellied Eagle, Oriental Hobby, River, Red-wattled, and Grey-headed Lapwing, Green Bee-eater, Blue-throated and Blue-eared Barbet, White-browed Piculet, Greater and lesser Yellownape, Long-tailed and Silver-breasted Broadbill, Blyth's and Black-eared Shrike Babbler, Grey-eyed Bulbul, Grey-bellied Tesia, Golden Babbler, White-hooded Babbler, Greater and Lesser Rufous-headed Parrotbill, Chinese Blue Flycatcher, Sapphire Flycatcher, Slaty-blue Flycatcher, Golden-fronted and Blue-winged Leafbird, Ibisbill, Red-billed and Coral-billed Scimitar Babbler, Streaked Wren Babbler, Spot-winged Starling, Collared Myna, Spot-winged Grosbeak, Black-backed Forktail, etc.

 

   

 

Day 13, Yingjiang to Kunming

Morning birding in Yingjiang and take flight to Kunming in the evenning.
